Don Swenson is a founding partner of Stonehill Financial, LLC. In addition to providing business advisory services to our clients, he founded and manages our special situation debt fund, which has acquired over $200 million in face amount of distressed debt.
He has a unique and varied background. As a business lawyer, he formed his own general practice law firm where he was engaged in civil trial litigation, criminal prosecution, and government representation. Later he became a partner in a large law firm where he was chairman of the firm's bankruptcy and reorganization practice and a member of its management committee. In that capacity he led numerous engagements for troubled companies across a wide spectrum of segments including advertising/media, medical, manufacturing, distribution, entertainment, electronics, financial services, recreational products, and trucking.
As a businessman, he co-founded a medical products database company and sold it to a large pharmaceutical company. He was also corporate counsel for a large recreational products company working with senior management in numerous business areas including acquisitions and divestitures, securities law, contracts, product safety, product liability, patents, and employment matters. He no longer practices law but applies his experience for the benefit of Stonehill clients, working with companies and their counsel on a full range of financial and liquidity matters. Following law school he served in the U.S. Air Force JAG on both active duty and in the Reserves rising to the rank of Major. He is a member of various associations, including the Minnesota and American Bar Associations, Turnaround Management Association, American Bankruptcy Institute, Risk Management Association, and a Director the Commercial Finance Association.
